Knights Sweep Chargers in Saturday Twinbill

The Hillsdale College baseball team dropped both ends of a Saturday doubleheader to Bellarmine University, 8-1 and 7-3 in Louisville, Kentucky Saturday afternoon. The two teams will complete their four-game series starting at noon Sunday.

In game one, the Knights got ahead quickly, scoring twice in the bottom of the first inning, then plated three more in the fourth and fifth innings. Bellarmine outhit Hillsdale 11-7 in the game.

One positive sign in the opener was the work of the Charger bullpen. Joe Hamrick and Chris Dunn combined to throw three innings of scoreless baseball, with Hamrick recording a strikeout.

Junior Colin Boerst was the lone Charger with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-5 with a run scored. Junior Steven Ring drove in a run and sophomore Dante Toppi had a double.

In the second game, the Knights again took a quick early lead, jumping ahead 4-0 by the end of the third inning. Hillsdale rallied to trail 4-3, but the Knights scored once in the fifth and two more times in the sixth to extend their lead.

Freshman James Krick hit his first career home run, a two-run shot in the top of the fourth that scored Alex Walts, who reached on an error. Boerst smacked two doubles as part of a 3-for-4 game at the plate. Freshman Rob Zurawski also went 2-for-3 in the nightcap.
