Hillsdale Drops Pair of Games in Evansville

The Hillsdale College baseball team lost a pair of non-league game to regional foes Monday afternoon as part of the Dunn Hospitality Classic, hosted by the University of Southern Indiana.

In the opener, the Chargers fell to the Miners of MIssouri S&T by a score of 5-2. In the second game, Grand Valley State recorded a 19-3 win, making Hillsdale 2-6 on the season.

Game one saw sophomore pitcher Andrew Verbrugge pitch all nine innings, yielding just three earned runs with three strikeouts. Three errors in the field led to two Missouri S&T unearned runs, which was the Miners' margin of victory.

Juniors Colin Boerst and Steven Ring each had two hits. Boerst had a sacrifice fly that drove in a run, and junior Dylan Lottinville went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a run batted in.

Hillsdale hung close with GVSU for much of Monday's second game, entering the seventh inning trailing 4-1. But the Lakers scored 10 runs in the seventh to help make the final score what it was.

Freshman Rob Zurawski was 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Lottinville and Kevin Monson each had a hit and a run batted in for the Chargers.
