Hillsdale Drops Pair at Wayne State

The Charger baseball team was on the losing end of a GLIAC doubleheader in Detroit Wednesday afternoon.

In the opener, Wayne State rallied for three runs in the seventh inning of a 6-5 win over Hillsdale. In game two, the Warriors took charge from the opening frame, and downed the Chargers 13-4.

Hillsdale is now 15-18 overall and 8-10 in the GLIAC while the Warriors remained in first place in the GLIAC with a 12-2 conference ledger.

After trailing 2-0, Hillsdale scored five unanswered runs in the opener to grab a 5-2 lead. Senior Ethan Wiskur slugged his eighth home run of the season, a three-run shot, to help ignite the offense.

But Wayne State battled back in the seventh, opening the inning with a single and a double to get the rally going.

Sophomore Colin Boerst was 2-for-2 with two walks, a run scored and a run batted in during the first game. Freshman Jake Rhodes also drew two walks and scored twice.

In the nightcap, the Warriors put four up on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first to take a big early lead. The Chargers came back to within one, 5-4, in the sixth inning. But the Warriors responded by scoring in each of their final three at bats to widen the lead.

Steven Ring was 2-for-4 with a run batted in while Dylan Lottinville scored two runs in game two for Hillsdale.
