Game 2 box score: Northwood 7, Hillsdale 6

The first home weekend series of the 2017 season finished with a win and three losses for the Hillsdale College baseball team.

The Chargers dropped a pair of games to Northwood University Sunday, 8-1 and 7-6 at Simpson Field. The team is now 11-15 overall and 4-8 in the GLIAC.

In game one, Northwood pitcher Tyler Jandron held Hillsdale to a season-low one hit in the 8-1 decision. Only a triple by Alex Walts kept the Chargers from getting no-hit in Sunday's opener. Ryan O'Hearn scored the team's lone run.

Game two was apirited and dramatic, with the Chargers mounting a comeback from an early deficit before falling 7-6.

Sophomore Colin Boerst hit a three-run home run to turn the game from 6-1 to 6-4 with one swing of the bat in the fifth inning. The teams traded runs through the late innings, but the Timberwolves got some clutch pitching to limit any damage the Chargers were hoping to do.

Junior Phil Carey pitched well for Hillsdale in relief, striking out four in four innings of work with one run allowed.

Steven Ring was 2-for-5 with another home run and outfielder Michael Mitchell was 2-for-4 with a run scored and a run batted in.
