Hillsdale Continues to Struggle in Florida

Connor Bartlett and Ethan Wiskur (pictured) each had two hits in Hillsdale's 3-1 loss to Ohio Valley Tuesday, the team's first game on the Florida leg of its spring trip.

The Chargers' lone run came in the bottom of the ninth inning vs. Ohio Valley. Wiskur got the start on the mound, striking out four batters in six innings. 

Hillsdale fell behind big early in a 12-2 loss to Kentucky Wesleyan Tuesday night. KWC scored five times in the first and three more times in teh second inning to take a commanding lead.

Sophomore Chris McDonald had his first career three-hit game for the Chargers. He had half of the team's six hits in the ballgame.

Eckerd 3, Hillsdale 2 (11 inn.)

Eckerd College scored an unearned run with a single in the bottom of the 11th inning Wednesday night to send the Chargers to their eighth straight loss, 3-2.

Hillsdale scored a run in each of the game's first two innings, but was held off the scoresheet after that, as Eckerd came back to tie the game in the sixth before winning in the second extra inning.

The top three batters in Hillsdale's lineup - Luke Ortel, Adam Ladzinski and Tad Sobieszczanski - each had two hits vs. Eckerd. Ortel also scored and run and had an RBI, while Chris McDonald also drove in a run. Outfielder Connor Bartlett scored Hillsdale's other run.

Charger pitchers Shane Armstrong and Dan Pochmara combined for 10 strikeouts in the game, with Armstrong going 6 2/3 innings before giving way to Pochmara.

Kentucky Wesleyan hit Hillsdale for five runs in the sixth and four more runs in the seventh inning in its 13-4 victory Thursday.

Offensively, sophomore Tad Sobieszczanski was the only Charger with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3. Chris McDonald drove home three runs to lead Hillsdale's offense. Sophomore Lincoln Reed hit the team's first home run of the season in the loss.

In the 8-4 loss to Upper Iowa, each team scored four runs in the ninth inning, with the Chargers stranding 10 runners on base in the game.

Catcher Joe Gentile had two hits while Luke Ortel had two RBI, a hit and a run scored. Connor Bartlett also delivered two hits in the game.

Minnesota-Crookston 7, Hillsdale 6

March 14 Recap

The Chargers let some opportunities slip away late in a 7-6 loss to Minnesota-Crookston Friday afternoon.

Hillsdale left two runners on base in the eighth and ninth innings, ruining a chance to win a game it led 4-1 at one point. The Chargers left 10 runners on base overall in the game.

Chris McDonald has been one of the team's best hitters in Florida, and was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI in this game. Luke Ortel pounded out three hits and scored twice, while Connor Bartlett had two hits and 3 RBI for Hillsdale. Shirtstop Vinny Delicata also crossed the plate twice.
