Although the Chargers got improved pitching compared to Saturday, they still fell short in two games against GLVC programs Bellarmine and Truman.
Hillsdale lost to Truman 5-2 earlier Sunday before losing to Bellarmine 4-2. Hillsdale, 1-4 on the season, will continue south from Louisville and play a week's worth of nine-inning games in Florida.
Against Truman, Hillsdale was held off the board until the top of the seventh inning, when Connor Bartlett hit a two-run double, as part of his three-hit day. Six other players had one hit apiece for the Chargers.
Sophomore pitcher Jacob Gardner got the start for Hillsdale against Truman and had six strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings pitched. Jacob King yielded one earned run in 3 1/3 innings on the hill.
The Charger offense was held off the board until the sixth inning vs. the Knights. Sophomore Tad Sobieszczanski and junior Nolan Breymaier each had two hits for Hillsdale in the loss. Freshman Jake Lee made his first career start on the mound and did a solid job with six strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings pitched. Lefthander P.J. Cooley fanned three in 1 1/3 innings in relief.

The Hillsdale College baseball team absorbed two losses against GLVC opponents Saturday afternoon in Louisville, Kentucky.
In the first game, the Chargers lost to Truman, a newcomer to the GLVC, 8-4.
The Trojans jumped on the Chargers early, pushing across six runs in the top of the second inning to get a big lead quickly.
Junior Nolan Breymaier led the team offensively in the first game, going 3-for-4 with a run scored and a run batted in. Sophomore Luke Ortel had a triple among his two hits and run scored.
Freshman Ethan Wiskur had his first career multi-hit game, while also scoring a run. Hillsdale's bullpen, made up of Colin Gerish, Jon Hanrahan and Chris McDonald, combined to throw 7 2/3 innings with just two runs allowed.
In the second game the team played Saturday in Louisville, the Chargers lost to host Bellarmine University 11-3.
The Knights scored 10 of their runs in two innings, the third and the sixth. The home team took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third, which became a 4-0 lead one inning later. Hillsdale answered in the top of the fifth, when sophomore Tad Sobieszczanki scored on a sacrifice fly by Sean Bennett to make it a 4-1 game.
Bellarmine broke loose for 7 runs in the bottom of the sixth, the most damage coming on a bases-loaded walk followed by a three-run double.
No Charger had more than one hit in the game. Breymaier had a hit and an RBI, while freshman Jake Lee drove in a run. One bright spot was the relief pitching of sophomore Mitchell Gatt, who tossed 2 1/3 innings with three hits and no runs or walks allowed.
Hillsdale has rematches with both teams in Louisville Sunday.
