April 22, 2013 - The Notre Dame College baseball team scored runs in four consecutive innings to earn a 9-3 win over Hillsdale College at Simpson Field Monday afternoon.

The two teams met in a non-league contest. Hillsdale is now 15-22 overall, and heads north to take on Saginaw Valley State in a GLIAC doubleheader Wednesday afternoon starting at 2 p.m.

The Falcons' Keifer Quick, who had 7 RBI in the game, hit a grand slam home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the game out of reach. NDC not only got big hitting from its cleanup hitter, but starting pitcher Matt Kastelic recorded 13 strikeouts in eight innings of work.

Each team had seven hits in the game, but all seven of Hillsdale's were singles. Each of the Chargers' last 17 hits, spanning the past two games, have all been singles.

Hillsdale took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Sean Bennett's groundout scored sophomore Nolan Breymaier. But the lead was short-lived, as the Falcons came back with two runs in the top of the fourth to take the lead for good.

The game was noteworthy for some Charger players who made their 2013 season debuts. Colin Gerish was the starting pitcher and went four innings in his first outing of the season. Mitchell Gatt, (pictured) who has missed considerable time with injury, made his first-ever appearance, and looked solid in 1 1/3 innings of work.

Freshman Joe Gentile also made his first collegiate at bat for Hillsdale.

Scott Rhodes had a hit and a run scored, and freshman Zak Northrup had two hits for the Chargers. Hillsdale's three runs were scored on a groundout and two wild pitches.
