April 7, 2013 - Ashland University jumped all over Hillsdale College in their Sunday afternoon matchup, going on to a 14-5 win in the third game of their weekend series in Ohio.
The Chargers are now 12-15 overall and 5-9 in the GLIAC, while Ashland improved to 21-8 on the season after Sunday's result. Hillsdale comes back home this week, hosting Wayne State for a Wednesday afternoon doubleheader.
The Eagles scored a total of six runs in the first three innings and kept a comfortable lead throughout the nine-inning matchup at Ashland.
The loss marred a four-hit day by freshman Luke Ortel (pictured). It was a new single-game career-high in hits for the first-year leadoff hitter, who has really impacted the team with his play in center field in addition to his offense. Ortel had a single and a run scored in Hillsdale's four-run sixth inning.
Vinny Delicata had a two-run triple in the sixth, and was 2-for-4 in the game. Senior catcher Brad Hayden also had two hits and scored a run for the Chargers.

April 6, 2013 - Senior pitcher Kris Morris hasn't enjoyed much luck on the mound this season before picking up the ball for Saturday's first game against Ashland University.
Despite some strong starts, Morris hadn't won a game all season. That changed in a big way in this outing.
Morris went all seven innings and gave up just one run and four hits to the powerful Eagles, getting a much-deserved first win of the season by score of 8-1. Ashland came back to win the nightcap 12-2. The teams will finish up their three-game weekend series Sunday afternoon.
Perhaps recognizing their most experienced pitcher was in search of his first win, the batters in the Charger lineup got going in the top of the first inning of game one. Senior Mike Vanchieri picked up a two-run single, followed by a run-scoring single off the bat of freshman Geordy Smith to spring Hillsdale to an early 3-0 lead.
The Chargers were the beneficiaries of seven errors committed by the Eagles in the opening game. Seven of Hillsdale's eight runs were unearned.
Morris had four strikeouts and just one walk in his victory.
Eight out of the nine batters in the Charger lineup got hits in the first game, led by Smith's three. Freshman Zak Northrup picked up two hits, giving him eight over his last three games. Freshmen Connor Bartlett and Michael O'Sullivan each had two hits for Hillsdale.
The Eagles put together an eight-run fifth inning to turn the second game into a one-sided affair. Vanchieri drove in two runs with a double in the sixth. Luke Ortel and Scott Lantis scored the team's only runs in the loss.
