John A. Halter Shooting Sports Education Center

Our Mission

The educational component of the Halter Center allows individuals to gain a deeper understanding of what the Second Amendment guarantees and the importance of protecting that freedom.

It is here that we bring the ideas of liberty to life.

From the Range Master...
The new year is off to a great start, and I am encouraged by the excitement in the air. More Hillsdale College students have signed up for shooting sports classes than I can ever remember. I understand their itch to get outside! Despite the cold temps, the small segment of open water on the lake in front of my home continues to push an open channel  deeper into the frozen blanket of white, and the hundreds of geese, ducks, and swans here that refuse to go farther south confirm that spring has started its march to the north.
We have a busy year planned for shooting sports at the Halter Center! New High School Clay Target programs are forming right now, and we have expanded Ladies and Couples camp offerings. Range activities in April include Thursdays open clay target shooting and league, a sporting clays tournament, and an open house. We are offering shooting clinics for our members along with open time on the pistol and archery ranges. Contact us for more information on memberships and events. We look forward to a great shooting sports season!

Charger Spotlight | Austin Coe
Austin Coe is the lone freshman on the shotgun team this year. He started shooting in middle school on a small Scholastic Clay Target Program club team. He is considering majoring in biology and already, only two semesters into his college career, has learned that the hardest part of being a student athlete is balancing his time.  Austin commented, “’Strength rejoices in the challenge’ is motivation for me to keep working as hard as I can late through the night, studying and writing papers.” Austin has gained valuable experience so far on the Hillsdale team, “one of the biggest experiences is learning the other disciplines other than skeet.” He plans to continue shooting after graduation, and use his shooting experience later in life to “teach young shooters the shotgun sports at my home club.” Austin also hopes to enter medical school and go into the medical field after Hillsdale.
