From the Range Master...
We have had an exciting and busy summer here at the Halter Center! Many shooters took advantage of the great sporting clays course this year. Our second annual “Charger Classic” NSCA Tournament on August 26th was a wonderful event. The 132 shooters from several surrounding states were blessed with a beautiful Michigan summer day. Results from the Tournament can be found at this address: http://www.iclays.com/scores/scores5355-35979.html#OPEN
We thankfully received several nice comments about the beauty and cleanliness of our facilities, as well as, the quality presentation of our targets. The range staff and the Hillsdale College Shotgun Team worked hard to make this a success and we hope you will return to shoot the course again! We wish to extend a special thank you to all of our donors who supported the construction of the course and provided the golf carts for guest use.
Our 2017-2018 Charger Shotgun Team looks great! Several recruits joined the team the last week of August for some shooting and a tour of campus. Both the high school students and their parents commented about the outstanding quality of Hillsdale College. We are proud of our team’s winning tradition and the hard work these talented men and women dedicate to their shooting, as well as their academics. There is no doubt that they will continue to represent Hillsdale College well.
Classes for students have started and many new shooters will learn the fundamental safety and marksmanship skills in the shotgun, archery, pistol, and rifle disciplines. Thursday Open Clay Target Shooting has also begun for those interested in trap, skeet, five stand, and Olympic bunker. We are looking forward to our second Couples for Liberty Camp this season, as well as the 2017 Alumni Sporting Clays Fall Classic on September 30. We are also excited to announce a new Membership Program that will include benefits for shotgun, pistol, and archery enthusiasts.

Charger Spotlight | Drew Lieske
Senior Drew Lieske is a financial management and mathematics double major at Hillsdale College. Drew has contributed to three of the team’s five National Championships thus far. Each time counted as a special moment, a favorite memory. “The last day of the National Championship…Is a day that, for each year thus far, has started with copious trepidation and culminated in pure elation. The feeling of relief, pride and happiness that comes after the last round of the competition—knowing that you’ve got another national title under your belt—is especially gratifying. Being able to share the moment with your teammates makes it even more extraordinary.” Drew has achieved outstanding success in the shooting sports. At the 2017 National Championships in San Antonio, Texas, Drew broke the ACUI record for the Men’s High-Over-All Award, breaking an incredible 531 of 550 targets. Speaking fondly of his fellow team member, Senior Kie Kababik says, “We are nothing without Drew.” Following graduation, Drew would like to “explore a career in finance that is analytical in nature. Two fields that interest me are investment banking and management consulting.” Prior to joining Hillsdale’s team, Drew’s shooting was individually focused, yet he has learned a lot from working with the Shotgun Team. “The team aspect of collegiate shooting is very unique and something that I have really enjoyed.”
