From the Range Master...
The Alumni Sporting Clays Fall Classic was a wonderful success! Fifty-five shooters participated Saturday morning in perfect fall weather. It was great to see so many alumni return to Hillsdale. Many participants remarked at how beautiful the facility is and how nice the sporting clays course is laid out. Congratulations to the event’s top shooter, Andrew Little! We look forward to hosting this Hillsdale College Homecoming weekend event for many years!
For those of you interested in learning more about clay target shooting, Thursdays from 3:00 – 7:00 pm is a great time to come to the range. Our trap, skeet, five-stand, bunker, and sporting clays fields are open, and we have instructors on site to assist those who would like an introduction to the clay target sports. This is also a good time to ask questions about our new membership program or stop out for a tour of our facility.
The Hillsdale College Charger Shotgun Team has been practicing and they are looking great! The team will travel to Marengo, Ohio, October 27-29 to compete in the 2017 SCTP National College Championship where they will shoot trap, skeet, and sporting clays at the Cardinal Center. Expectations are high for the team for this event. If you are in the area, make sure you stop out to encourage our outstanding athletes!

Charger Spotlight | Matthew Grunzweig
Matthew Grunzweig is a financial management major in his third year at Hillsdale College. Matt has been on the shotgun team since his freshman year, but has been around firearms his whole life and began competing in sporting clays competitions in 2012. His favorite memory with the team is the first training camp he participated in as a freshman: “Within 30 minutes, I was welcomed with open arms and felt like I had known everyone for years. The team is truly a family.” Matt has also realized that “every single member of the team will do anything to increase my success, whether it be out at the range or inside the classroom.” This kind of team support is particularly essential for student athletes at Hillsdale who must be especially dedicated to their studies in order to have time to practice and be dedicated to their sport. Matt says the hardest part of being a student athlete “is being able to maintain excellence through shooting, as well as with academics.” After graduation, Matt plans to find a job in the wealth management field and will definitely continue shooting. “Hopefully I will be able to pass on the shotgun sports to the next generation. For me, shooting has been a great doorway to new friendships that will last a lifetime.”
