Great Midwest Athletic Conference delays Fall competition until Sept. 24

INDIANAPOLIS – The Great Midwest Athletic Conference has announced its plan to return to competition for the 2020-21 season, following a delay of practice and competition for the fall championship segment.

The Great Midwest has designated Friday, August 28, as the first permissible practice date for the championship segment in football, men's and women's soccer, volleyball and cross country. The first permissible date of competition for the fall championship segment has been delayed until Thursday, September 24.

"The Great Midwest has made the determination that a delay of the fall championship segment is the appropriate direction for those sports at this time," said Great Midwest Commissioner Tom Daeger. "We believe this to be the best path forward for our membership to ensure we are serving the student-athletes and providing the most beneficial and meaningful experience for them as they return to campus this fall."

"We will continue to review the variables surrounding the intercollegiate athletic environment and work to ensure we are positioning these student-athletes for a safe, successful and enjoyable season," added Daeger.

Administrators and league officials will continue to meet regularly to facilitate the opening of the fall sport seasons.

Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championships for the fall season are scheduled on originally planned dates with cross country on October 24, men's and women's soccer on November 7; 12-13, and volleyball slated for November 17; 20-21. The NCAA has not made any alterations on national tournaments for the fall season at this time.

All dates and times for the conference composite schedule are subject to change. Hillsdale College will post new schedules for the fall season to hillsdalechargers.com as soon as they are finalized.
