Bio

Mitch Schoenborn, MA, CSCS, USAW began his role with the Chargers in September 2019.

A native of Casnovia, Michigan, Schoenborn comes to Hillsdale after several years at Central Michigan University, where he earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees and did practical strength & conditioning coach work with all of the Chippewas' varsity athletic teams.

He graduated from CMU in 2016 with a degree in exercise science. He then stayed in Mount Pleasant, getting his master's from CMU in exercise physiology in 2018. Through those years, he stayed busy with CMU athletics, working in the strength & conditioning department with football, wrestling, track & field, women's lacrosse, women's field hockey and wrestling. He worked primarily with football and wrestling in the 2018-19 school year before joining the Chargers.

"The academic rigor here is so high, you know the athletes are inherently hard-working," Schoenborn said. "They pay attention to the details, they do things the right way. I'm excited to work with athletes who bring that mentality with them every day."

Schoenborn graduated from Kent City High School, located between Grand Rapids and Muskegon. He comes from a family farm that spans 400 acres in the Casnovia area, and he credits that upbringing with establishing the work ethic he'll bring to his new position at Hillsdale.

"You have long days out on the farm and there are long days here," he said. "So I'm used to the kind of commitment level this requires."

Tyler Cortright, Hillsdale's Director of Sports Medicine and Performance, said Schoenborn will bring just the right combination of energy and experience that will allow him to excel in this position, and for Hillsdale College athletes to stay as healthy as possible.

"We are very fortunate to have Mitch join our staff in taking over the role of Head Strength & Conditioning Coach," Cortright said. "He comes highly recommended from a great staff at Central Michigan University, learning under a very well-respected coach in the world of strength and conditioning, Jason Novak. He worked with a variety of sports at the Division I level and we look forward to how he can help our student-athletes succeed."
