J. Donald Phillips

 

The president of Hillsdale College from 1951-71, he fostered the rapid development of the athletic department in the post-Korean War era. Under his leadership, the football, baseball and track programs flourished, winning many MIAA championships. In the 1960s, earned national acclaim for his stance against campus disturbances, and was a staunch defender of the college’s independence throughout that decade.
